Cougars is about more than sport, it is the embodiment of the healthy spirit of competition within all of the students, alumni, faculty and staff in everything they do. Being a member of #Cougnation is to be part of a proud community of people who learn, work and play hard. They have high standards and they expect great things from themselves and others around them. They understand that to achieve success they may sometimes struggle. However, it is through their hard work, dedication and focus that they eventually prevail. The Cougar by its nature is a solitary animal. And much like that animal they each go through their own individual battles. However, when they come together, their strengths as individuals make them even greater as a team. Being proud of the Cougars is as much about being proud of their institution, their peers and themselves as it is of being proud of the varsity teams who represent them on the field of play. Together, they are the Cougars.
The new Canada West mark pays respect to their history. The maple leaf at the top is a refined version of the one used by the Western Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Association (WCIAA) – the forerunner to Canada West. The maple leaf sits atop an open book, representing the academic pursuits of their student-athletes. The new CW wordmark draws on the organization’s third logo, used until the early 2000s.The red is drawn from the most recent logo, which had been in use since 2003. The overall shield design represents strength, confidence, history, and prestige – characteristics Canada West has come to represent.
